THE PRESIDENT
Born in Noto in 1952, son of an artisan, he attended the classical high school and continued with the University studies in Political Science in Catania, and discovered commitment and political passion as a very young man, gaining sensitivity and knowledge, in order to link economy to society.
Leader of the PCI, Italian Communist Party, and then of the PDS, Democratic Party of the Left, he had a short but strong trade union carrier that put him on the head of the CGIL, Italian General Confederation of Work, of Siracusa, when an idea of economic development began, even through the benefits of the European Union.
When Marziano took up the European Movement, many days had to pass when, in 2002, as President of the provincial Administration, he was called in Bruxelles as an effective member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.
Before his first election as President (8th June 1998), Bruno Marziano had been also member of the Regional Commission for the Environment Protection, where he reached an experience for the environment-supporting development.
So, even as administrator of the public sector, he was able to speak both with environmentalists and with entrepreneurship. Farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, trade union forces, local authorities have acknowledged to president Marziano common sense, institutional responsibility and ability to administer public sector with transparency and modernity, with management capability, but always with a glance to social instances and to the needs of the poor and weak. A sensibility many times underlined by authoritative exponents of catholic world.
Bruno Marziano, at the head of a Centre-left coalition, is besides member of the Council of administration of the society managing the airport of Catania, president of the ATO, Optimum Territorial Sphere of water, president of the provincial Observer for Chemical, coordinator of Territorial Pact.
Recently, he has got two important recognitions from authoritative American Universities: the President’s Medal from the Central Connecticut State University, and the Citation from the University of Louisville.
On the 9th June 2003 Bruno Marziano has been re-confirmed President of the provincial Administration of Siracusa.
During 2004, President Marziano has been elected deputy President of the Sicilian provincial Administrations Union and deputy President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union. He is also deputy president of Italian provincial Administrations Union.
